We often find ourselves entangled in the need to escape the limitations of traditional power structures, seeking the freedom and power that comes from understanding higher spiritual principles. This quest involves recognizing the principle of inversion, where traditional power structures must be understood in reverse to unlock true liberty and power. This concept is like reversing the flow of electricity to generate higher levels of energy, allowing us to transform our lives by reinterpreting established norms.

The idea of inversion, though it may seem complex, is straightforward when applied to spiritual growth. In the same way that physical inversion in machinery creates new dynamics, spiritual inversion shifts our perspective, helping us understand that true power and liberty come from within. The principle that "as a man thinks, so is he" underscores this concept, suggesting that our internal beliefs shape our external reality. By recognizing this, we can free ourselves from the constraints of old ways of thinking and embrace a new paradigm where power and  liberty are interconnected.

This principle is further illustrated by the idea that external actions are not the only causes of our experiences. Often, our internal beliefs and thoughts set the stage for our reality. This aligns with the Law of Works and the Circle of Karma, which show that the quality of our lives results from our internal states. Changing our thoughts and beliefs can break the cycle of negative experiences, leading to a new sequence of positive outcomes.

By understanding the relationship between spirit and matter, we can see that spirit influences matter in profound ways. This recognition brings us to the Law of Faith and the Law of Liberty, which suggest that faith in our creative power and a liberated mindset can transform our lives. Embracing these laws means realizing that we are expressions of higher intelligence and love, capable of directing our thoughts and actions to align with the greater good.

In practical terms, this means recognizing the power of thought. Thought determines action, and when directed toward higher principles, it can produce significant changes in our lives. This understanding aligns with ancient teachings that emphasize the importance of inner knowledge and the connection between thought and reality. By aligning our thoughts with universal principles, we can harness the creative power of spirit to bring about positive change.

However, not everyone possesses this knowledge. Many people still operate within limited frameworks, missing the deeper truths that could free them from unnecessary constraints. This misunderstanding often stems from misinterpretations of spiritual teachings. For instance, the idea of the Messiah in religious contexts often misses the broader implications of spiritual liberation. True spiritual freedom involves recognizing our inherent connection to the divine and the limitless possibilities that come with it.

This realization requires a shift in perspective. We must move beyond traditional dogmas and embrace a more expansive understanding of spiritual principles. This shift involves recognizing the unity of all things and the continuous flow of creative energy that connects us to the universe. By doing so, we align ourselves with the higher laws of nature and the divine, allowing us to experience greater freedom and fulfillment.

The practical application of these principles involves a conscious effort to align our thoughts and actions with higher truths. This process is akin to the scientific method, where hypotheses are tested and refined to reach a deeper understanding of reality. Similarly, in spiritual practice, we must test and refine our beliefs and actions to align with universal principles. This ongoing process leads to greater clarity and spiritual growth.

The ultimate goal is to achieve a state of harmony with the universal mind, where our thoughts and actions are guided by a deep understanding of the interconnectedness of all things. This state of being is characterized by freedom from the limitations of traditional power structures and an embrace of the infinite possibilities that come with spiritual awareness.

In conclusion, the principle of inversion and the interconnectedness of power and liberty offers a pathway to true spiritual freedom. By understanding and applying these principles, we can break free from old constraints and embrace a new paradigm of limitless potential. This journey involves a continuous process of learning, growth, and alignment with higher truths, leading to a life of greater fulfillment and harmony with the universe.

We discover our intuition is true by realizing the deep connection to the Infinite Harmony of All Being. This realization is not a vague feeling but a logical outcome of the universal life principle,  which permeates everything in nature. The most advanced minds among us recognize this unity,  not just in theoretical terms but as a living reality. Each person, as a unique part of the whole, has  the potential to direct streams of inexhaustible energy and power.

What could be more significant than this realization? The influence we have on our destiny is immense. The unity with the Infinite Being draws the focus of higher spiritual forces towards us.  Recognizing this connection, we understand that our individual power and higher aspects of our spirit form the core of our existence. The law of growth, which raises us to higher levels of individual power, shows there is no limit to what we can achieve.

Mathematics, specifically algebra, often helps clarify complex ideas. Algebra's simplicity often resolves intricate problems, showing that while variables may differ, their underlying relationships remain consistent. This is analogous to the relationship between the individual and the Infinite Being, where the connection remains unaltered despite individual differences.

The Kabbalists spoke of the "lost word," a concept of immense power that humanity has forgotten. Rediscovering this word brings profound understanding. The word, "I AM," signifies the expression of the Infinite in each of us. It represents our true nature and power, rooted in the  essence of being. Embracing "I AM" leads us to realize our potential and unity with the Infinite.

Understanding this unity brings us to see that the Infinite is not separate from us. The Infinite expresses itself through us, and our individuality is a mode of this expression. This understanding leads to the realization that our true nature is one with the Infinite, guiding our thoughts and actions in harmony with universal laws.

Life, in its essence, is motion and energy. This constant flow connects everything, showing that our perceptions of separateness are illusions. The law of conservation of energy supports this, as does the recognition that we are integral parts of the greater universal power.

Ancient teachings remind us of this unity. They stress that all power lies in the understanding and  embracing of "I AM." This phrase is not just about self-affirmation but about realizing our connection to the greater whole. The "lost word" teaches us that our words and thoughts shape our reality. We are powerful beings capable of influencing the world around us through our thoughts and intentions.

In practical terms, this means recognizing our own vitality and responsiveness. Our thoughts and  feelings shape our experiences. When we consider Spirit in the absolute, we realize that even the smallest thoughts can have infinite repercussions. This idea is reinforced by the principle that "as  a man thinks, so is he." Our internal state reflects in our external reality, and our thoughts create  vibrations that extend into the infinite.

The creative power of Spirit shows that every thought and intention we have shapes our world.  Persistent thoughts create stronger effects than random ones. This highlights the importance of  focusing our minds and controlling our thoughts to create the reality we desire. Scattered thoughts lead to scattered results, while focused thoughts harness the power of Spirit for greater outcomes.

The idea of directed concentration is crucial. Energy without direction is chaotic, leading to confusion and destruction. Directed thought channels this energy into constructive outcomes.  Whether it's physical forces or spiritual power, concentrated energy brings significant results.  This principle applies both to individual efforts and the collective actions of humanity.

Selfishness and ignorance are major barriers to realizing our potential. They limit our ability to connect with the infinite and harness its power. True progress comes from understanding our role within the larger system and aligning our actions with universal principles. This alignment leads  to greater freedom and fulfillment, as we work in harmony with the natural laws of the universe.

Ultimately, the infinite harmony of All-Being shows us that our highest good is achieved by  recognizing and embracing our connection to the greater whole. This principle of unity and love  drives all progress, ensuring that our individual actions contribute to the collective advancement  of humanity. By understanding and applying this law, we unlock our potential and fulfill our role within the universe.

Troward:The Hidden Power - Part 4

The law of spirit, as our investigations have shown, operates at the very core of existence. We have moved from seeing it as merely an aspect of the intelligent order in life to recognizing it as the aggregation of this intelligence within the individual. There is no reason why this law should cease to operate at any level; its principles hold true on both small and large scales. This law shows that the scope of its field is unlimited, leading us to understand that the individual is part of a greater intelligence that governs not only one being but the collective intelligence of entire communities and, ultimately, the universe.

We need to recognize that the same principles that govern our world also govern the larger universe. This suggests a supreme intelligence that encompasses all individual intelligences, creating a harmonious whole. This idea is not fanciful; it's rooted in our observations of how natural laws, like the law of inverse squares, operate in both small and large scales. This law shows how forces like attraction and repulsion work universally, always resulting in a balanced system.

The universality of these laws suggests that spiritual principles, too, are universally applicable. The old saying, "A truth on one plane is a truth on all," reminds us that principles are not confined to specific circumstances. The factors at play may vary, but the underlying truth remains constant.

The law of the generation of power by attraction applies both physically and spiritually. The intimate association between parts working together forms a powerful whole. Whether it's the physical attraction between bodies or the spiritual attraction of ideas, this law explains the synergy that results in greater power. This principle, which unites intelligence and power, is fundamental to understanding how everything operates within its sphere yet contributes to a larger system.

Importantly, each individual is the center of their universe, with the power to direct their thoughts and control their actions. This principle of autonomy doesn't imply isolation but integration into the larger whole, with each person contributing to the universal intelligence and power.

We must recognize that the relationship between the lower and higher modes of spirit is one of harmony, not conflict. Each part serves the whole without losing its individuality. Just as in a well-functioning organism, every part fulfills its role while contributing to the overall health and function. The subordination of individual parts to the whole does not imply a loss of freedom; rather, it ensures proper functioning and growth.

The old Hindu concept of the Car of Jagannath symbolizes this idea. The car represents the universal mind, moving forward relentlessly, with each part contributing to its progress. Those

who oppose it find themselves left behind or crushed by its progress. This metaphor highlights the importance of aligning with universal principles for growth and fulfillment.

Employing the universal law of spirit means aligning our will with the greater will of the universe. This doesn't mean losing our individuality but realizing that true freedom comes from understanding and following the universal laws. The Supreme Mind operates under these laws, and recognizing them allows us to harness their power for our benefit.

Our understanding of spirit must grow beyond seeing it as separate parts. True knowledge recognizes the interconnectedness of all things, with individual expression reflecting a higher intelligence. The increased vitality of the parts leads to greater overall vitality, demonstrating that growth is a continuous process aligned with universal principles.

Maintaining a healthy action within the law of spirit involves moving forward with the larger whole in mind. This doesn't restrict our freedom but aligns it with the broader goal of universal progress. The collective individuality of humanity is not just a reproduction of individual growth but an evolution toward a higher expression of the whole.

Selfishness is a major barrier to recognizing our true potential. By focusing solely on personal gain, we limit ourselves and hinder our growth. True progress comes from understanding and embracing our role within the larger system. This realization leads to greater freedom and alignment with the law of spirit, which is fundamentally based on love.

Ultimately, the law of spirit shows us that our highest good is achieved by recognizing and aligning with the greater good. This principle of love drives all progress and ensures that our individual actions contribute to the collective advancement of humanity. Understanding and applying this law is key to unlocking our potential and fulfilling our role within the universe.

Section 3: **The Inner Workings of Spirit and Science

I've emphasized that the "innermost within" of all things is living Spirit. The  Science of Spirit differs from the Science of Matter because it considers Energy as a responsive intelligence, which is not covered by physical science. These two points are crucial if we want to understand Spirit clearly and avoid being misled by purely physical science arguments. The liveliness of the originating principle,  evident in all living things, shows intelligence and responsiveness, which are sometimes subtle but undeniable.

It's hard to deny that an intelligent order runs throughout nature. The more deeply we investigate the world, the clearer it becomes that all science translates into words or symbols of a pre-existing order. The highest clarity of this existing order,  which our minds can understand, is the highest form of human intellect. This suggests a corresponding intelligence in the universe, creating a harmonious whole. Unless we dismiss the idea of a divine craftsman working outside himself,  we need to explain the phenomenon of nature's intricate design. This points to the  Living Spirit inherent in everything, giving it form, purpose, and definition.

There is no randomness in nature. Every action and reaction in atoms, molecules,  tissues, organs, and individuals is guided by an intelligent force. At each stage, the collective intelligence surpasses the sum of individual parts. These observations can be proven by physical science and play a significant role in spiritual science,  showing how spirit adapts means to ends and harmonizes existence. This intelligence is inherent in Spirit, as there is no other source from which it could  come. Thus, Spirit is intelligent, and its actions are guided by this intelligence.

Spirit is also responsive. We must recognize that while lower degrees of Spirit's intelligence don't match the intelligence of the complex whole, Spirit, in its entirety, is highly organized and intelligent. This higher organization shows a degree of Spirit that is superior and capable of exercising control over all aspects of life.

Being intelligent, Spirit knows and, in knowing, it is life itself. It recognizes higher powers, and through attraction, it is drawn to higher levels of itself. Spirit is intelligent and responsive, embodying personality. This suggests that Spirit in all its forms contains elements of personality, even if not always expressed individually.

In essence, Spirit is always personal. When we reach a high degree of synthesis,  we recognize ourselves as manifestations of personality. Humanity represents this manifestation on every plane, and the spirit in us must originate from a high level of spiritual substance.

We find that the highest expressions of Spirit in humanity reflect the personality that understands itself and organizes its purposes. Spirit in its various forms must act according to its own intelligent and responsive nature, creating order from itself.

However, if we misuse Spirit's power for personal gain, we fall short. Spirit must be used for its creative purpose, leading us to higher potential. Following the law of Spirit, we advance toward greater fulfillment. The Spirit of Life is ultimately  summed up in "goodness." Spirit is Life, and every action aligns with benefiting the whole. This is Spirit's law, showing its intelligence and responsiveness to its  inherent character.

The guiding principle of Spirit is "goodness." We must use the Spirit's power wisely,  aiming for universal benefit. This means acting in line with the core law of Spirit,  promoting growth, intelligence, and responsiveness for the greater good.

Understanding Spirit as both intelligent and responsive allows us to see how it operates through the natural and spiritual realms. This dual approach shows that Spirit is the foundation of all existence, guiding us to live harmoniously with its laws and principles.

Troward:The Hidden Power - Part 2

Part 2: **The Central Principle of Life

What is the central principle at the root of all things? It is Life. But not just the life we see in different forms; it’s something deeper and more unified. This "unity of the spirit" is pure and undivided because it hasn't yet diversified. This might seem abstract, but it's the foundation of all scientific understanding of spirit.  Without it, we can't explain the countless forms that spirit takes.

Life, in this sense, is the sum of all its manifestations. It isn't any one thing specifically, but it holds the potential for everything. This is a highly abstract concept, but it's about the core from which growth happens, expanding in every direction. This core is "the unknowable" – not because it can't be thought of, but because it can't be fully analyzed. It's something we perceive rather than understand through relationships and comparisons. We've moved beyond questions of relationships and are faced with the absolute.

At its innermost, this is absolute Spirit. It's Life that hasn't yet differentiated into  any specific form; it's the universal life at the heart of all appearances.  Understanding this is key to unlocking the true power and accessing the core of the Living Spirit. Some might argue it's contradictory to call this "the unknowable"  and then talk about understanding it. Yet, even St. Paul wrote about exploring the depths and heights of the inner side of things to attain the knowledge of love that surpasses understanding. If he could embrace such seemingly illogical  phrasing, we can also speak of knowing "the unknowable." This knowledge is the foundation of all other knowledge.

This undifferentiated universal life is the ultimate fact that all analysis must lead to. Regardless of the level of analysis, it must always come down to pure essence, pure energy, pure being – something that knows and recognizes itself but cannot be broken down into parts because it is fundamentally whole. Pure  Unity. Analysis without synthesis is destructive; it’s like a child pulling a flower to pieces and discarding the fragments instead of understanding the flower's construction and appreciating the vast synthesis of nature's power that the flower represents. The value of analysis is to lead us back to the original point of what we study and teach us the laws that guide its formation.

Understanding the construction's laws, we can reverse our analysis to gain the  power to build, always reaching beyond the limits of those who see "the  unknowable" as synonymous with “nothingness."

This idea of the unknowable is the root of all materialism. Yet, no scientist,  regardless of their materialistic tendencies, treats the unanalysable residue in their experiments as nothing. Instead, they use this final unanalyzable fact as the basis for their synthesis. They find that in the end, it is some form of energy,  whether as heat or motion. They don’t abandon their scientific pursuits because they can't analyze it further. Instead, they embrace it, understanding that energy's conservation, indestructibility, and the impossibility of adding or subtracting from the world's total energy are the unchanging facts on which physical science is built. They base all their knowledge on their understanding of  "the unknowable." And rightly so, for even if they could analyze this energy  further, they would encounter the same problem of "the unknowable." Our progress involves continuously pushing the boundaries of the unanalysable,  always a step further back. But the idea that there could be no ultimate unanalysable residue is inconceivable.

By realizing the undifferentiated unity of the Living Spirit as the central fact of any system, whether it be the entire universe or a single organism, we follow a  strictly scientific method. Our analysis leads us to this final fact, and then we accept it as the basis for synthesis. The Science of Spirit is just as scientific as the Science of Matter. Both start from the same initial fact: the fact of living energy, which defies definition or explanation. However, the Science of Spirit considers this energy under the aspect of responsive intelligence, which is outside the scope of physical science. The Sciences of Spirit and Matter are not opposed; they complement each other. Neither is fully comprehensible without some knowledge of the other, and they merge into one another in a borderland where no arbitrary line can be drawn. True scientific study reveals the dual aspect of things: the inner and the outer. Only a truncated and incomplete science refuses to acknowledge this.

Studying the material world is not materialism if it progresses to its legitimate end. Materialism is the limited view that denies the existence of anything beyond mechanical effects and causes. A system that recognizes no higher power than physical force will ultimately resort to physical force or fraud as its highest appeal. I speak of the system's tendency, not the morality of individuals, who often surpass the systems they profess. History shows us the dangers of materialistic thought, whether in the Italy of the Borgias, the France of the First  Revolution, or the Commune of the Franco-Prussian War. To avoid these destructive tendencies, we must embrace the study of the inner and spiritual aspects of life, which leads to truth and love instead of deceit and violence. Some may wonder why the New Jerusalem is described in the Book of  Revelations as a cube, with "the length and the breadth and the height of it  equal." This is because the cube represents perfect stability, with all sides balanced. It signifies the manifestation of that central life-giving energy, which is not any one plane but generates all planes. It is the above and below and all four sides. At the same time, it is a city, a place of habitation, because the "within" is  Living Spirit, which resides there.

Just as one plane of the cube implies all other planes, any manifestation implies others and the "within" that generates them. To progress in the spiritual side of science – and every science has its spiritual aspect – we must focus on this  "innermost within" that generates the cube. Our common language reflects this intuitive understanding. We speak of the spirit within, the spirit of a thing, the spirit of the times, and so on. Recognizing this animating spirit, we should understand it from within, rather than from without, to grasp its true nature. Thus, every symbol of a spiritual fact has its foundation in living reality, the same principle that flashes upon us intermittently and vaguely. We may realize that this universal and unlimited power of the spirit will manifest individually when we are attuned to the whole. Regardless of how far we go in our studies of spiritual science, we will find only particular expressions of this one universal life. The  "Unity of the Spirit" is the key.

By understanding and embracing this unity, we unlock the deeper truths that lie at the heart of all existence, guiding us toward a more profound and comprehensive understanding of life and the universe.

Troward:The Hidden Power - Part 1

by Midnight Freemason Guest Contributor
Bro. Mark St. Cyr

The following is my attempt to apply contemporary verbiage to one of the most unsung heroes of this modern age, Thomas Troward. (1846 -1916)  If the name sounds vaguely familiar, there’s a reason. Freemasons might recall his thoughts as a Masonic scholar, along with Albert G. Mackey, William Harvey,  H.L. Haywood, W.L. Fawcette from the book “The Two Great Pillars of Boaz and  Jachin”.

Whether or not Judge Troward was a Freemason, I am not sure, for the more I researched the more I found works of his relating to the topic, but none showing initiation or affiliation.

However, his name and work go far beyond the Craft and are foundational for many ideas practiced today, such as…

AA (e.g., Alcoholics Anonymous), New Thought Movement (e.g., accumulated wisdom and philosophy from a variety of origins, such as Ancient Greek,  Roman, Egyptian, Chinese, Taoist, Hindu, and Buddhist cultures), right through to today’s “Positive Thinking” movement. (e.g., Bob Proctor of “The Secret”  fame credits Troward’s work in much of his own. This is just a sampling, it’s far deeper and far more consuming than one may judge at first glance. But, his influence is everywhere, it’s just most have no idea.

I’d like to change that.

So what I’m offering starting with this sample below is to take chapter by chapter, point by point while keeping his original intent and examples in tact i.e.,  not adding or changing things into what I think, but what he said directly as succinctly as possible with more contemporary verbiage and phrasing.

I will footnote the book using the APA 7th edition method or similar. The heading titles are not changed unless noted, for those that want to see read the original text. You can find it across the web, for free (for it is all in the Public  Domain), or, you can easily download a digital version on services like Kindle®  (for a cost) or others, or simply get a hardcopy at many booksellers.

Now, when it comes to this subject matter, it’s not as if I’m some wide-eyed “Holy Moly! I’ve found the holy grail!” type. I’ve been at this, and doing this, for a very long time. I have many first editions, first printings from the likes of Andrew Carnegie (Empire of Business 1902) through Napoleon Hill’s “Think and Grow Rich” and more. So it’s not like I’m not literally invested in such topics or I don’t know what is being professed and its intent, or the profound meanings encapsulated that so many are looking for today but just can’t seem to find.

Everywhere you turn today, someone’s coming up with ancient wisdom is some  “new and improved” version, taking the original expressions, and trying to turn them into some soundbite or quote on social media with no understanding of what truly is at the root and why.

This project I’m starting here on the Midnight Freemasons is to try and alleviate just that making it understandable, relatable, and more importantly - applicable to one’s daily life.

I hope you agree.

Now let’s begin…

The Hidden Power: Chapter 1, Section 1

To truly understand how much of our daily lives are influenced by symbols, we need to answer the age-old question: What is Truth? As we start to recognize this, we begin to approach Truth. Realizing Truth means being able to interpret symbols, whether they are natural or conventional, and not just dismissing them as meaningless. The main responsibility of those who have attained this knowledge is to help others understand this connection.

Everything has an inner and outer aspect; a superficial mind fails to grasp the deeper truth because it only focuses on the outer appearance. As long as this is the case, a person cannot comprehend their connection to the universal, and thus cannot make progress in understanding. Denying the principle of "Growth,"  which is fundamental to all aspects of life, whether spiritual, intellectual, or material, leads to stagnation.

Growth and expansion from within, in alignment with the natural order, is the  Law of Life. This principle unlocks the mysteries of existence. Without this  understanding, we cannot move from the superficial to the deeper aspects of life. Recognizing this inner truth allows us to see that life is richer and more meaningful when we look beyond the surface.

In a broad sense, everything is a symbol of the deeper truth within it, and Nature is a gallery of hidden meanings for those who can interpret them. Our lives are shaped by how we understand these symbols, especially in relation to the  Divine. A person's beliefs about the Divine influence their entire life, not just their formal adherence to a specific creed.

Has a person's mind truly reached a point where they know God or understand the knowledge they possess about the Divine? Without inner clarity, one's mind remains in chaos, with elements of being disordered and conflicting. Progressing further means realizing that there is a governing power within, even if initially obscured. Otherwise, life becomes a constant struggle to reconcile inner chaos. Every step towards understanding, from the lowest levels of ignorance to the highest peaks of intelligence, must reflect the deeper realization of one's connection to the Divine. This realization dissolves old limitations and leads to freedom, power, and light. True understanding is not merely theoretical but involves a deep, conscious experience of life within ourselves.

The closer we get to this inner understanding, the clearer our perception of symbols becomes. However, this journey is not easy, as each step involves convincing ourselves that the symbols are not the truth itself but representations of a deeper reality. The difficulty lies in moving beyond mere symbols to grasp the Truth they point to.

Many may fear the changes that this deeper understanding brings, preferring the familiar over the unknown. Yet, the true power of the universe continually pushes forward, encouraging growth and overcoming limitations. Realizing the hidden power within leads to ultimate Truth, beyond any superficial understanding. True inner Truth is not an excuse for inaction or fear. Those lacking the energy to seek deeper meaning remain in the superficial aspects of life. True realization involves pushing forward with confidence, trusting that the inner power of the universe will guide us to greater understanding and fulfillment.
